As a runner who's spent quite a bit of time over the years looking at his own and other people's running, this looks too elastic. The character bends his knees too far too easily, and is leaning backwards too much. Perhaps that makes the simulation stay upright for longer, but it's not how people walk or run. Also, is this running at a lower than 1G gravity? It looks like that...

Awesome! I think I just realised something as well: there's no air resistance, is there? That could well be the reason of the backwards leaning stance. Perhaps a simple continuous exponential reduction in horizontal speed would help then?
Also, how about having the character stand still, and then applying random pushes, letting him compensate and try to stay upright? That might let you experiment with finer motions, and with the distribution of weight across the legs and between the heel and the front foot. Standing is actually already quite complicated, so perhaps start with that, then add walking, and finally a run? _________________ Say, can you feel the thunder in the air? I need his hands linked to the mouse, so you can lean by moving the mouse around, while moving, and hold another key to aim/pick up blocks etc aiming using mouselook,
then you will be able to run with an item in your hands, and place it somewhere else, more to come:) _________________ Let not the bindings of society hold you back from improving it.... the masses follow where the bold explore. |
