Might there be a method etc.?

The articles "Study Reveals Young Mars Was A Wet World" ( www.space.com/scienceastronomy/060420_mars_water.html ) and "Mars Express’s OMEGA uncovers possible sites for life" ( http://www.spacefellowship.com/News/?p=1577 ) say that there a study has been done that concludes that one of obviously two explanation of the current absence of martian water is that sulfur reacted with it that came from massive volcanic eruptions.
Might there be a way to get oxygen and hydrogen back from the dust, rocks etc. a way similar to what migh be developed to get the oxygen back out of lunar regolith? Of course I suppose that it will be more complex since after the volcanic eruptions there has been another process changing the martian surface later - I am simply asking for and thinking about it for principle and analogies. An article under www.wissenschaft.de reporting about methods to get oxygen and metals out of lunar regolith also says that Eric Cardiff, Goddard Space Flight Center, has said that each material is decomposed into its atoms if it only will be heated sufficiently.
So some or a few methods for the Moon might be applicable to martian dusts also - they might be ways to get back oxygen, water or the like from the acids, the dust etc. What about it? Dipl.-Volkswirt (bdvb) Augustin (Political Economist) |

Since Phoenix seems to have found that there are regions on Mars where there are no acidic or oxydizing dusts it might be an option to approach the problematic regions from there and remove the problematic dust by entering from outside.
The dust could be transferred into containers while forming safe ways through the remaining masses of dust where it has been digged away. the dust in the containers could be processed. What about this? Dipl.-Volkswirt (bdvb) Augustin (Political Economist) |
