Could a very large and heavy weight drop down a track down a mountain, pulling a cable attached to a pulley that doubles or quadruples its movement on a different cable pulling something up a mountain, for long enough to reach a useful speed reliably, almost like a carriers launch cord, but much more Wiley Coyote.... then trigger liquid fuel rockets or solid etc.

Yes, but its easier and cheaper to just build a rocket that provides the same energy.

Yes, but can you reload the rocket with reusable green energy? And how is a rocket less expensive?

You can buy a lot of rockets and their propellants for the price of a hundred kilometer long/tall Rube Goldburg catapult/trebuchet contraption.

Rocket costs 60M, fuel cost for that rocket 200k. So a (possibly) reusable rocket is much cheaper than a very long catapult. |
