Threshold engine..
By using a very strong m.a.s.e.r. ,a plasma ball undergoing Z pinch pressure spike could be zapped to induce wakefield acceleration, so you could turn a 4 cm ball of gas at 2000 c into a .1 cm ball at 10000 for a femosecond and then blast it with the m.a.s.e.r. blasting a pulse of coherently accelerated plasma at a speed proportional to its temp was before the temp to momentum conversion. Since momentum is mass, the faster you through the plasma, the harder you can push off it as a reaction mass, because it gets hevier and heavier. _________________ Let not the bindings of society hold you back from improving it.... the masses follow where the bold explore. |

Sigma you sure as hell loves plasmas.
![]() By any chance are you studying to become a physicist or engineer? _________________ "SCREW THE RULES, WE HAVE MONEY!" http://www.freespaceships.com |

I just think that rocket fuel will one day be obsolete, and in order to facilitate this that rockets will need other means of propulsion, and eventually to have a plasma based gas engine, that can be ran on scavenged material and some sort of reactor, so it can fly as long as it can find something to vaporize ionize and then accelerate, A very very hot style fission reactor could be used to ionize atmosphere and direct it with Radio and Microwave emissions.
I am gradually working on a engineering degree and want to specialize in efficient space travel, and efficient automotive tech..... we are living on 60's tech, when we could be thriving, on the tech of today, Billions of dollars worth of bullets cant buy the respect that landing on the moon did, or landing on mars etc, every death of a combatant can draw in 2 more..... we spend so much wasted money on new methods of turning people into fine pastes or ashes, while humanity sags under the weight of its own opulence. We need a shared dream not a shared war........ If d.a.r.p.a spent enough money on batteries and super capacitors to use laser weapons from long range*1, they could bring down the cost for cars, etc. (most people think this is impossible due to bloom, but you can achieve it by having many small beams just under bloom energy all focus on a targeting point...... poof no more missile...) _________________ Let not the bindings of society hold you back from improving it.... the masses follow where the bold explore. |
