5 teams were awarded prize money for reaching various milestones:

Been on one of the X-Prize teams for nearly a year and the deadline is fast approaching. Will one of the teams be successful? We have a secondary backup if we don't go to the moon...

Which team? and do you think that these intermediate prizes will enable a credible attempt at landing on the Moon within the new deadline?

Smart choice would be to take the money and bow out. Developing stuff in the lab is easy and cheap (costs wise).

Team Synergy

First short test launch last year of the proposed vehicle:

Just as the SpaceX Falcon Heavy was supposed to fly in 2014, we intend to fly when we are ready. Will it be in time for the end of next year's deadline? Only time will tell. As for the intermediate prizes, I hope they generate enthusiasm for the effort of the different teams (too bad the teams don't combine instead of each having to do everything...just like on the N-Prize).

Yes, those teams could just take the money and leave, just as SpaceX could stop now that it has a lucrative contract with NASA for ISS supply...why invest more money in doing other things...like going to Mars? Where would we be today if no one wanted to spend money on space?

Our team does have other goals in addition to winning the Lunar Prize so any effort on this competition can be applied for other things. Yes, any space project is going to cost money and time but I think it's well worth it.
