What about autonomous space travel in some sense?
DARPA's road challenge was an excellent idea, even though no one won. An autonomous ship to the moon or wherever with out any real mission control would be awesome. Maybe it would have to perform some kind of task, like collecting or fixing something. I think that that would promote industry in space, metal manufacturing and research and the such. It would also mix both space and robotics innovation. |

Very interesting idea. Of course, NASA has the probes. But to send one completely without mission control would be quite a feat. And if you could miniturize enough, think of the weight savings...
